Immunology

The human immune system protects the body against a variety of pathogens, ensuring that we can survive and develop in a complex and changeable environment. However, the overreaction of the immune system can lead to many diseases such as inflammatory factor storms, allergies and autoimmune diseases. In recent years, clinical treatments using immune cells to fight cancer have been successful.

The Institute of Immunology of Tsinghua University was established in 2014 and currently has 15 laboratories, mainly conducting cutting-edge research related to immune response and immune diseases. The research direction of the laboratory involves many fields of immunology, including the development of the immune system and immune cells, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, infection immunity, tumor immunity and the physiological and pathological basis and translational research. The laboratory pays attention to a variety of immune cell types, including T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, NK cells, natural lymphocytes, etc. Cell development, activation, functions, and important roles and biological mechanisms in diseases . Research uses a variety of methods, including disease models, dynamic cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, etc., and is committed to revealing related diseases in tissues, cells, intracellular signal transduction, transcription regulation, epigenetics, etc. Based on the molecular mechanism of the disease, we will further develop diagnosis and treatment methods and new drugs for immune-related diseases.

At present, the Institute of Immunology of Tsinghua University has led China and Asia, and has the potential to be among the top in the world, cultivating a new generation of leading talents for the basic and transformational scientific research of immunology. In the next five years, the Institute of Immunology will further expand the research direction, expand the scale to 20 laboratories, and build more advanced and complete infrastructure to provide comprehensive support for more in-depth and comprehensive immunological foundation and translational research.
