The medical experimental class is set to major in clinical medicine, and the school system is 8 years. After completing the study, students will receive a doctor of clinical medicine (M.D.). The first class of students was enrolled in 2009, and there have been 12 classes of students so far. The training goal of this major is for physicians and scientists, that is, clinicians with excellent scientific inquiry ability and clinical diagnosis and treatment ability. In the face of sudden clinical problems, they can use scientific thinking to discover the internal causes of diseases in diagnosis and treatment, and solve and overcome them with scientific minds and methods. The education of doctoral graduate students in basic medicine adheres to the educational philosophy of Tsinghua University's value which is shaping, ability training, and knowledge transfer. Such education offers efforts in cultivating talents which are good at basic medical research and innovative spirits. At present, we have a number of characteristic disciplines such as development and regeneration, tumors, immunity, pathogenic microorganisms and infectious diseases, medical biochemistry and genetics, and neurobiology and neurodegenerative diseases.
This discipline advances in parallel with the emerging research directions in the classic research fields of biomedical engineering. Disciplines have formed distinctive core research directions, including: neural engineering, medical imaging, micro-nano medicine and tissue engineering, and medical instruments. Neuro-engineering is an interdisciplinary subject of modern neuroscience, electronics and information science; it is committed to understanding the neural mechanisms behind biological intelligence, providing new ideas for the next generation of artificial intelligence algorithms, and providing new methods and new platform for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of neurological diseases.
